Homecoming Week 2012

By: Chloe Arfsten

Homecoming week is right around the corner at Red Rock Central and all the necessary preparations are in progress. It will begin the week of October 1st. Many activities will be happening throughout the week including coronation, dress up days, girls volleyball games, a parade, the boys football game, and the dance.

Monday, October 1st, is the big kick off to the week. Coronation will begin at 7:00 p.m. with the presentation of the homecoming royalty. They are Bree Rasmussen and Jake Jackson for the first grade, Anna Hagan and Brandon Sohre for the freshman, and Erika Rogotzke and Jordan Schroepfer for the sophomores. The juniors have two couples, and they are Katelyn Hagan and Austin Price, and Carlie Jackson and Spencer Jenniges. Representing the seniors are Cassidy Christians and Brian Hagberg, Fern Engen and Henry Rogotzke, Kylie Redenius and Jeffrey DeCock, Tegan Derickson and Casey Engen, Shanaya Prins and Mitchell Schroepfer, Nicole Mattison and Jesse Rogotzke. After all of the royalty has been presented, there will be skits and games for the royalty, other students, and staff members. To wrap it up, two of the senior candidates will be crowned king and queen.

Throughout the week, students will be dressing up for a different theme every day. Monday is PJ/hat and shade day, Tuesday is senior citizen day, Wednesday is fake an injury day, Thursday is superhero day, and Friday is spirit day. Dress-up days are always one of the highlights for homecoming week, and students and staff are excited to see what everyone else is wearing.

During the week there are three sports activities. The volleyball team has two games, one in Jeffers on Tuesday the 2nd against Fulda and another on Thursday the 4th against Cedar Mountain Comfrey. Tuesday’s game against Fulda is a cancer awareness night, so everyone is encouraged to come out to support the cause and cheer on the Falcons. There will be walking tacos, a bar, and a drink for $5 or just the walking taco for $4. They will start serving at 5:00 p.m.

Friday, October the 5th is loaded with activities. At 1:00 pm there will be a parade. All classes 7-12 will be creating a float and other school organizations will have the opportunities to create one as well. Other community members and businesses are invited to be in the parade. If anyone would like to participate, registration is available by calling the office at 507-752-7361 and asking for Mr. Goetstouwers. Please register by October 3rd. The elementary will be coming to Lamberton to watch, and all community members are welcome to watch as well. After the parade, students will go to the gym for some activities which include volleyball, tug of war, and powderpuff football, time permitting. At 7:00 p.m. on Friday night, the Falcon football team will be playing Buffalo Lake Hector. A dance for grades 7-12 will follow the game.

RRC hopes homecoming will be an enjoyable time for all students, staff, and community this year. With all the activities going on, the week is bound to be a blast!
