STOP

By: Katie Pederson

It is that time of year for Future Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members to start working on their Star Events for regions in January, and if they advance, they could go to state in April. Two eighth graders, Taylor Price and Hannah Stevenson, are working on a very serious topic of presentation.[1]  It is called STOP: Stop Taunting Other People.

Taylor and Hannah’s topic is based around the importance of bullying prevention. During their presentation, they will tell listeners about the main kinds of bullying and ways to prevent it. As they inform listeners of the importance of bully prevention, they interact with the audience by asking them about bullying, what they think it is, and what they can do to prevent it. Then, they take those suggestions and write them down to play a game of Bully Prevention Jeopardy with the viewers.

In practicing for regions, Taylor and Hannah will present to a few classrooms full of students. When they are done presenting to the students, they will ask the advisor of that group which aspects of their presentation they did well on and what they should improve. They then take those critiques and try to make their performance better.

Both Taylor and Hannah agree that this project means so much to them because it is an opinion of some people that bullying is a huge issue. It makes them feel good that they could potentially help others and t them away from that sort of thing. Taylor and Hannah’s goal for this presentation is to get across the message about the dangers of bullying and will help prevent it in the school, community, and hopefully go on in life to give a helping hand to others in need. This project sends a great message, and Red Rock wishes Taylor and Hannah good luck at regions! [2]

Philippe Goetstouwers:

Is 'very serious' the correct words here or does it sound more like your opinion?  Could you rephrase it so you capture what it means to those girls?

Philippe Goetstouwers:

Can we add something about RRC supporting these two girls as they promote bullying prevention?  It might add something to your ending.
