Fort
Ridgely-
Officers'
Quarters
This is a picture of the foundation where one of many officers' quarters stood...
This foundation
of a building is similar to other officers' quarters across the parade
ground. It housed
two or three
officers, their families, and their servants. Archeological investigation
beneath the
foundations
uncovered materials that suggest the Dakota lived in this spot before the
fort was built.
This Plaque Says:
This wood framed duplex probably housed two officers
and their families.
The quarters were separated by a central wall
and like similar quarters
of the time had servants in a separate building
in the fort.
