Joseph La Framboise fur trader
Four miles south east of Fort Ridgely is a marker for the old Little Rock
Trading Post. It was established in 1834 by Joseph La Framboise, a licensed
fur trader and interpreter, the post was an important center of civilization
in those early days. La Framboise, who interpreted at two treaties
signed between the Dakota and the U.S. government, is buried at the Fort
Ridgely Cemetery.
Historian Nancy L. Torner has researched the fur trader's past and there is a copy of it at the Renville County Museum.
